Contact Your Elected Officials
Tell them you want more transparency with our background checks through Transparency In Politics Certification.
USA.gov has a way for you to contact your elected officials by entering your own address.
Here is an email template that you could use:
Dear [name of elected official],
My name is [your name] and I live in [City / State]. I had to have a background check. I was shocked to learn that this is not a requirement for political candidates. I urge you to be transparent about your history and qualifications by ordering the Transparency In Politics/Peopletrail Background check and sharing it publicly on the Transparency In Politics website.
Please check out the website, order your background check and share it with the public. The process only takes a few steps to complete and demonstrates to voters that you care about trust and integrity.
Be strategic and don’t let someone else tell your story – visit the Transparency in Politics LLC website to complete the background check.

I appreciate your time and dedication to integrity. We deserve to know who you really are. We as voters look forward to seeing your background check posted on the Transparency in Politics website.
Thank you for considering my request.
Sincerely,

The fact that background checks are not done on a person running for office is astonishing and a surprise to many! That being said, thank you for your efforts in creating a platform whereby an elected official, or more importantly a candidate, can choose to be transparent! I would strongly consider an honest politician who has good ethics and an appropriate background – and decides to have their background verified through your program (TIP)!! Wishing you good luck and continued success with your project!

Thank you, Debbie! I just needs to be done. Why can you run for governor without a background check, but to work for the governor, you have to have one? It makes no sense!

There would seem to be a clear advantage for a candidate who has an excellent background to get this certification. This would be a real advantage in a race where their opponent might not have such a clean record and would therefore not want their background revealed. I would certainly wonder why the opponent wasn’t transparent.

Thankyou for doing this. We need honest politicians who are qualified to be in office and who support America.

Thanks so much for your comment. It would really help the cause if you could put a link to the poll on all your social media. Candidates need to know that voters want this!

Very few folks – at least who live in the West – are “clean” as far as
their background is concerned. What I am more concerned about
is what their “present” actions say about their character, their ethics
and their “spoken words”.-
Thank you for your comments. Our goal at Transparency In Politics is to give voters accurate information so that they can make good decisions about candidates. Our job at TIP job is not to comment or vet or make judgements about candidates. That is up to the voters. I agree about present actions, but there are many instances of very concerning offenses surfacing about an official after they are elected. And George Santos has shown us how difficult it is to remove them! Also, if a candidate is not an incumbent, there are only limited actions to assess. Voters should have the choice to decide how concerning a record of a candidate is.
