Supporters care about background checks?
Almost no vetting or verification of credentials is done when a candidate files to run for office, with few exceptions.

People are not always who they say they are. Your reputation is on the line when you support a candidate.
Lying on a resume is not uncommon, especially about work experience and military service.
Confidence

Voters would have more confidence in candidates if a verified background check were performed and shared with endorsers, supporters, and PACs.

to remove
It is almost impossible to remove a candidate from office once elected. The best option is to get them to resign, but this is often not successful. And incumbents usually win if they run again. Recall votes-read about those here in the Ballotpedia article.
Choose carefully.
