Is Menendez the only senator to be indicted? Here’s 12 others.

Senator Robert Menendez, D-New Jersey, has been recently indicted for the second time. He’s the 14th sitting senator to face charges and he and his wife are now facing charges of corruption and allegedly accepting significant bribes of cash, gold mortgage payments and a Mercedes-Benz. Would his prior indictment have shown up on a Peopletrail background check? I would say probably, yes, since pending cases are located in court records. We have no idea what else might be in his background, since to run for US Senate or even sit on committees with access to sensitive material does NOT require a background check or any particular clearance. I would guess that he had access to some sensitive material as chair of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

“Menendez is one of two living senators to be indicted − the other being former Texas Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison who was charged with official misconduct and tampering with evidence.”
